FOR anyone braving the weather last Sunday, the abiding memory will be the absolute bitterness of the wind and rain.

However, for those Evesham supporters who braved the elements at Alcester, the memory will be of a cracking match at odds with the elements, creating its own little sunshine in the form of a heart warming performance by the Under 10s.

Handling skills were superb on a day when all the players could have been accused of fumbling or knocking on such was the cold.

Despite being small in stature they all went at the task in hand with a relish and enthusiasm that saw them come away with two victories.

The first, which involved players from Years Four and Five, saw a fine display as the ball was kept flowing interlaced with some fine incisive runs from all the youngsters.

The first try came from a series of runs as Evesham kept the pressure from inside their own half right up to the try line, while the second came from a equally storming run from a determined George Swainson.

The try of the match came from George Goddard who ran in from well inside his own half, accelerating into space on the left touchline cutting inside and outside four defenders before touching down.

The team not only attacked and supported with verve but defended every inch of ground giving Alcester no easy chances. The fact that Alcester get near a reply speaks volumes for their determination.

The second match was played in the true sense of sportsmanship allowing some Alcester Under-11s to see some action. Again three tries were scored to just one in reply.

THE Avon Street youngsters played some brilliant rugby made better by the bad conditions.

Evesham started brightly with both Albert Homer and Ben Harrison scoring inside the first ten minutes.

Mark Dallimar scored just before half-time to leave his side 21 points to the good.

Evesham didn't relent in the second half when Homer bagged his second as rampant prop Matt Cook caused trouble all over the field.

Further Evesham tries were scored by Luke Pinchin, Tom Curtis and Shaun Bennett.

Evesham U-13 24,

Alcester 12

EVESHAM posted a hard-fought victory in the terrible weather.

Tries from Michael Diston and Shaun Hudson gave them a platform from which James Billingham's double and Luke Anderson's two conversions capitalised fine play from Gavin Pinchin and Adam Haig.

Chaddesley Corbett 9, Evesham U-8 10

A THIRD encounter this season saw the Evesham boys holding their heads high and battling through to maintain their unbeaten record despite the appallingly wet and cold conditions.

Alex Stoddart and Wil Taylor were the first to score but Chaddesley weren't going to let them have it easy and replied with a couple of tries of their own.

Spurred on, Taylor opened up and ran through to score a further four tries. Not to be outdone, brother Joe then bagged a brace of his own.

The Evesham boys refused to let the opposition get ahead and, with scores from Alex Stoddart and captain Ben Capaldi, forced the hosts to concede to a muddy defeat.

Chaddesley Corbett 7, Evesham U-8 8

EVESHAM played a skilled and precise game that again held Chaddesley at bay.

Connor McCaughan opened things up with the first of two impressive tries.

Scores remained close up to half-time, but Evesham really had the bit between their teeth and, with hat-tricks from Jack Hughes and Lucy Goddard, forced their way through to record a really sound victory.

There will be no training or fixtures now until the new year when training restarts on Sunday, January 5.
