WORCESTER Norton men's first team crushed bottom-of- the-table Kidderminster 16-0 in their final match of the first half of the DTZ Midlands Hockey Lleague Division One campaign.

Worcester, in third spot before the game started, were without captain Ian Ewers and key defender Adam Pusey, both away with international commitments.

The strength of the squad was more than evident with coach James Cosh able to rest himself and bring the experienced Marcus Bolton into the starting line-up after a week on the injury list.

After ten minutes the score was 5-0 with the home side's superior pace, skill, team work, technical execution and desire far higher than their opposition.

The scoring continued at regular intervals in both halves with seven players from the Worcester squad getting on the score-sheet and with Ben Tailor in goal doing a minimal amount of work, the Red and Blacks were in complete control.

The final score was a hugely impressive 16-0 with the score-sheet finishing with Marvin Bam, Alex Kotlarzewski and Neil Davids each scoring four, and Adam Ball, Matt Baumber, Chris Adams and James cosh, on as a late sub, all scoring one.

Worcester now have a break until they face Olton in a friendly at Nunnery Wood on January 4.

Worcester took the lead in this DTZ league game. Sharp passing from Harry Travers and Chris Perry led to a superb drag flick from Jeremy Drake, with the ball flying into the net.

Cannock equalised just before half time.

The first five minutes of the second half was scrappy resulting in Cannock taking a 2-1 advantage.

This was the end of the line for Worcester as Ben Martin was injured and unable to continue. Chris Lane strained his calf muscle shortly after this which left Worcester's defence very bare.

Staffs with only 10 men were over-run by a on-form Worcester.

With the first attack Chambers opened Worcester's account. By half time it was 9-0.

The second half saw more of the same and with Rob Allen bagging five well worked goals.

Others came from Chambers (4), Ogle, Perry and Appleyard. Worcester now top the table.

Worcester's midfield was tireless and after ten minutes John Mackeane fired home.

Thei second came soon after when Alistar Wilkinson cracked the ball past the keeper from another fine cross.

Under the cost Cannock stepped up their game and began to play the ball around nicely.

They scored three breakaway goals before half time to make the final score 3-2.

After five minutes Phil Jones slipped a neat pass to Rob Bell who set up Marcus Clatter's first. He then added another.

In the half Worcester were again the dominating force and scored again through Phil Jones who then set up Scot Seckham for a goal.

Cannock reduced the defifit, but time ran out for them

Worcester soon found themselves 2-0 up through goals from Ian Saunders and Nick Morrell.

Kidderminster fought back and scored, but Worcester increased their lead immediately with a goal from Alex Bowyer.

In the second half Worcester maintained the pressure and scored four more goals, two from Andy Taylor, one from Dave Richman and one from Stewart Vaughan.

A lucky break from Worcester resulted in an early goal although Finchfield levelled the score leaving Worcester to settle into their rhythm with only 10 men.

The improvement in passing towards the end of the second half paid off with goals from Andy Pritchard and Adrian Shipley.

With four key players unavailable, Worcester were hard pressed to field a side this week. Nine year-old Chris Kendall played the full 70 minutes and acquitted himself well.

Neither side created many chances and Caine Burge in goal didn't have a save to make.

Worcester nearly pinched the game at the end but their forwards couldn't quite force the ball home.
