FORMER Welsh international David Llewellyn will make his debut at Spring Lane on Saturday as Malvern Rugby Club go head to head with Kenilworth in Midlands One.

Scrum-half Llewellyn, capped 23 times, has signed for Malvern on loan from Newport as part of his rehabilitation after two years out of the game through injury.

Still trying to regain full match fitness, Llewellyn has had a couple of outings with Newport's second string, including a half against Bath United earlier this week.

"He came through unscathed and has decided that he needs sustained competitive rugby to get back to full match fitness," said Malvern's director of rugby David Robins.

"The Kenilworth match this week will get him used to his new colleagues and they will be able to establish a rapport, with a potentially bigger test coming against the mobile Dunstablians side on December 28."

Llewellyn's clearance to play for Malvern came through from Newport, the Welsh RFU and the IRB in time to register him for this weekend.

"The only downside is that Newport will be monitoring his progress," added Robins.

"If it is good, then they may well decide to re-register him at the end of January cut-off date. Whatever happens, our squad will have benefited from playing with a top-drawer scrum half with 23 caps."

Hereford go to Sutton Coldfield in Midlands Two West, but otherwise there are few league matches on offer this weekend with the fifth rounds of Powergen Intermediate and Junior cups taking precedence.

Bromsgrove travel to North Two (East) side Horden Welfare in the Intermediate Cup, hoping to emulate their performance of two seasons ago when they got to round six before losing to Cleckheaton.

In the Junior Cup, Worcester Wanderers should proceed into the next round at North Midlands Two side Old Griffinians.

Tenbury, meanwhile face a tough test against Mellish, while Bromyard also face a battle when they travel to West Bridgford.

There's an intriguing North Midlands Cup second round tie at Mortimer Park where Luctonians entertain Midlands Three West (North) leaders Kidderminster Carolians.
