HARSH words were needed from the Kidderminster Carolians' management team despite a 25-0 win over Bridgnorth taking them two points clear in Midlands Three West (North).

It was not a top-of-the-table display from KCs who failed to impress in defeating their rivals for the second time in four weeks.

But the match started well for the Marlpool Lane men with a try inside two minutes when flanker Kristian Taylor fed Dan Quinn from a scrum.

In-control KCs were denied by good tackling and the wrong options before Andy Stooksbury kicked a 15th-minute penalty.

Bridgnorth gave away too many penalties and were punished with a penalty try that Stooksbury kicked to make it 15-0 at half-time.

The same player increased the lead with a penalty before a rare moment of inspiration on 55 minutes.

Following a line-out a few yards out, scrum-half Mark James produced a brilliant pass to set up Mark Cleeton's fifth try of the season.

With Aston Old Edwardians losing 7-0 at bogey side Shrewsbury, KCs regained a two-point lead but have played a game more.

KCs reaped revenge after a defeat earlier in the season with Matt Poole, Kenny Bickley, Rob Preston, Simon Northcott and Giovanni Iacono tries giving them a 31-0 interval lead.

Tom Oakes converted three of the tries but the second period was much tighter.

KCs defended well before adding unconverted tries through Barry Turner, Brett Toole (two) and Preston in an excellent display.

KCs 3rds 55 Bridgnorth 28

Bridgnorth were out-gunned by rampant KCs for most of the match despite scoring two converted tries in each half.

The home side led 26-14 at half-time through tries from Martyn Wright, Richard Ellis (two) and Peter Gurr with three conversions from Spencer Crockett.

In-form James Bennett added a further two tries and Gurr grabbed a second but Bridgnorth pulled the score back to 41-28.

Crockett rounded off a big win by converting two more efforts from stand-in skipper Matt Such and Ian Doidge.
