LOCKERS could be moved at Evesham's Leisure Centre to improve customers' security after a man broke into one and stole keys to a sports car.

Wychavon Leisure, which runs the centre, are reviewing security arrangements after a silver BMW 330 Coupe, registration S9 FOY, worth £32,500, was stolen from the Davies Road centre at 11.45am on Monday, November 27, five minutes after its owner parked the car.. The man's wallet was also taken.

Police recovered the car in the car park of Evesham College at 9.15am last Friday and passed it on for forensic tests.

It was expected to be handed back to its owner this week.

Mark O'Shea, head of operations at Wychavon Leisure said: "We have CCTV cameras in the corridors and hallways and are now looking at a range of other alternatives, which include moving the lockers into the corridors.

"Thankfully, these incidents are few and far between and we have notices up telling people they can use the secure lockers in the fitness rooms."

Meanwhile, police are still appealing for information as to the identity of the car thief and are also trying to establish where the car was between Monday, November 27 and Friday, December 6.

The thief is believed to be white, about 6ft 1ins tall, slim with almost gaunt features and a predominantly bald head, with a small amount of hair at the back.

West Mercia Police spokesman Kim Stain said: "We are appealing to anyone who saw the car being parked on the college car park any time between 11.45am on Monday, November 27 and 9.15am on Friday, December 6."
