A JEALOUS husband burst into the home of a man he suspected of having an affair with his wife and attacked him in bed.

Adrian Davies repeatedly punched Timothy Faulkner in the face and on the head, breaking his nose and causing severe bruising, said Nicolas Cartwright, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court.

Davies, 40, of Peel Street, Kidderminster, who admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, was ordered to pay £250 compensation to his victim and £150 court costs. He was also ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work for the community.

Mr Cartwright said Davies and Mr Faulkner, who lived alone in Park Street, Kidderminster, had been friends. Mrs Davies often called in unannounced at Mr Faulkner's home but they were not having an affair.

But Davies brooded about his suspicions and launched a midnight attack. He was arrested two hours later and told police he suspected his wife was cheating on him.

Martin Butterworth, for Davies, said the father-of-three was contrite about having invaded another man's house in anger. He was devoted to his wife.

Tension built up and during an argument she blurted out about an affair. The couple's eldest son, 18-year-old Oliver, had stormed off to see Mr Faulkner.

His father followed him to stop trouble but instead carried out an attack himself.

Mr Justice Hughes said he accepted that Davies had followed his son in a bid to restrain him but then carried out the assault because he felt humiliated and frustrated.

Davies was a hard-working caring man and the offence was out of character.
