TWO brothers who attacked a lorry driver in a road rage incident have been sent to jail.

John and Michael Buckley got angry after Geoffrey Jones pulled in front of the their car during the morning rush-hour.

The sugar beet driver was punched to the ground and kicked. He needed hospital treatment.

A Worcester Crown Court jury convicted 30-year-old John Buckley, of Hanstone Road, Stourport, of assault causing actual bodily harm last month. He was jailed for six months.

Michael Buckley, 27, of Hamilton Road, Kidderminster, was jailed for four months. He pleaded guilty to a similar offence before the trial began.

Recorder Roderick Henderson said it was a serious offence on a public street. He gave the younger brother credit for not contesting the case.

Mr Jones was driving in Stourport's one-way system on November 23 last year. The brothers' Ford Escort cut in front of him, forcing him to pull out and overtake in order to avoid a collision.

The brothers then raced across a garage forecourt in Gilgal to get ahead and parked in front of the lorry.

Mr Jones got out of his cab and was punched in the face by John Buckley.

He managed to wrestle his assailant to the ground but the other brother kicked him in the face and ribs.

The attackers fled after a garage assistant screamed at them and brave motorist Mrs Linda Garbett ran towards them.

Mr Jones suffered extensive facial bruising and cuts to his cheek and temple.

John Buckley claimed the trucker gave them the V-sign and forced their car into the kerb, denting the trim.

They got out to get insurance details but he alleged Mr Jones approached with his fists in the air before a struggle broke out.

John Buckley had two previous convictions for assault causing bodily harm and one for threatening behaviour.
