MOTORSPORT: A successful racer has dedicated his title win to a Kidderminster motorsport fan who died earlier this year.
Michael Dalzell sponsored race ace Geoff Jones and followed him around the country in the Monoposto 1,600 Kent Championship.
The season started on a high with the driver winning his first three races but it took a sad twist with the death of Dalzell in August.
But Jones, who has worked at Brintons for the last 30 years, eventually secured the championship over 14 rounds, a first for a completely home-built car.
The support of sponsor Roger Gear and mechanic Phil Fellows proved instrumental with the car needing a major rebuild for the last race after a crash at Snetterton.
Jones decided the championship on the last corner of the final lap with an over-take in his Phoenix car.
He said: "The whole team were devastated by the loss of such a close friend but it gave the championship a new goal, to dedicate it to the memory of Michael."
