REPAIR work to refill the upper dock in the Diglis Basin has now begun, with mud to dam the area brought in by lorry.

Boaters have been left high and dry for nearly a week after an 18th Century storm sewer pipe was hit by British Waterways workers, causing the Worcester basin to empty.

Representatives from the company have already met around 20 concerned owners and dock workers, who have been assured water will be pumped back into the area by tomorrow.

A stretch of canal, from the basin to The Commandery, will be left empty to investigate the hole around the pipe, which allowed the water to leak into the River Severn.

Concerned boat owners can call the British Waterways head office for further information on 01564 784634.
