MALVERN U8s travelled to Old Halesonians with a severely depleted side on Sunday, to play what were to be two well-contested games of mini rugby.
Malvern captain Dan Clee won the toss and elected to play the first pass, and with practised handling and support work soon managed to open the scoring. However, Old Halesonians soon replied with three hard fought tries.
The second half again saw Malvern concede more tries but managed to contain the opposition with some excellent defensive work from Alex Jones and Ieuan Richards, who was unlucky not to score himself, in this his first match proper. Malvern managed to pull the score back slightly, but at the final whistle Old Halesonians left the pitch 45-35 winners.
The second match saw a rejuvenated Malvern play some outstanding mini-rugby, Richard Clive going over the try line with a super dive.
Old Halesonians were unable to penetrate a stout defensive line put up by Malvern throughout, but after a substitution managed to break through, to run in two well timed manoeuvres. With the final whistle going, a proud Malvern left the field victorious by 65-10.
Man of the match award was presented to Dan Clee and to Richard Clive. Between them, the pair managed to put over seventeen tries in both games.
