THERE are spooky goings on afoot at Bosbury Village Hall next weekend.

The Bosbury Players' latest production is The Ghost Train, which will be pulling into the village on Friday and Saturday, November 29 and 30.

Arnold Ridley's classic thriller was originally written in 1925 and has since been revived many times, both on stage and on film starring Arthur Askey.

Arnold Ridley himself is best known as Private Godfrey in Dad's Army, and the most recent revival starred another Dad's Army stalwart, Ian Lavender.

The players have been rehearsing the play, a mixture of thrills and farce, since the summer. Set in the 1920s, the production features period costumes on hire from Malvern Theatre Players.

Linda Sinker, who plays Elsie Winthrop in the show, said the audience would be in for both chills and thrills and some laughs as well.

"It's got four passengers stranded on a deserted, remote Cornish railway station on a dark and stormy night, and the station turns out to be haunted," she said.

Producer Alan Soper has previously masterminded, among others, The Importance of Being Ernest, The Joyride and The King and I for the Bosbury Players.

Ms Sinker said rehearsals, with a cast of nine, had been going very well.

"It's fun," she said. "I think we are looking forward to getting together with the special effects, as we can't rehearse in the village hall until a week before the play goes on."

Tickets for The Ghost Train are available from Gaynans in Ledbury, Bosbury Post Office or by phoning 01531 640837.
