A PLAY ranked among the best works of one of the most important playwrights of recent times is to start a run in Malvern on Monday, December 2.

The Touring Consortium's interpretation of Arthur Miller's classic tale of love, jealousy and betrayal, A View from the Bridge, is coming to Malvern Theatres as part of a national tour.

Set in Brooklyn in a close immigrant community, the play focuses on the unhealthy obsession of Eddie Carbone with his pretty, orphaned niece.

Directed by Kenny Ireland, the production stars Robert Gwilym, best known for his four-year stint as Dr Max in BBC1 hospital drama Casualty, in the role of Eddie. His stage career has taken in appearances at the West End and Broadway.

Sorcha Cusack, who will be playing Eddie's wife Beatrice, also counts Casualty among her television credits - she played Kate Wilson. Her most recent small-screen appearance was as Ruth in another BBC drama, Playing the Field. She too has extensive experience of treading the boards, including a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Anthony and Cleopatra.

A View from the Bridge will run until Saturday, December 7, at 8pm, with 2.30pm matines on Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets, priced £10-£18 (students £8) are available on 01684 892277.
