BUDDING Beethoven's are being urged to join a town music group.

The Droitwich Area Music Centre wants to hit the right note with schoolchildren and increase the volume of its lively youth ensemble.

The young musicians meet every Wednesday, from 4 to 6pm, where they play a variety of instruments and make friends.

But the centre, which was launched in 1998 by the Worcestershire Instrumental Music Service, needs new blood, says centre manager Alison Garbett.

"Many of our members have left because of changing schools and we would really appreciate some fresh talent," she said.

"It's a great chance to make new friends and there may be opportunities for young musicians to join county bands in the future."

The centre currently has 20 children on its books but can cater for many more.

Children can improve their theory knowledge, strings skills, practise percussion, tune their voices and join the wind section.

Similar organisations in Redditch and Kidderminster each have 300 members.

Alison said would-be members must be able to read music and have a basic knowledge of their instrument.

The group meets in the music department at Droitwich Spa High School, in Briar Mill.

A free workshop is being held on Wednesday, December 4, at 4.30pm for youngsters, who must be aged under 16, to join.
