DURING the winter months golf at the Worcestershire Golf Club will have a fresh appearance to most of the members.

The competition committee have decided to alter the sequence of holes played for a trial winter period so giving the course a more balanced approach. Under the new order of play there will be two par three holes on each of the front and back nine holes so ensuring, it is hoped, a better balance of play.

In the Winter Yellow Ball Alliance competition, played in teams of four, where the yellow ball and one other count on each hole some excellent golf was played. Three teams returned scores of 70 points and could only be separated by the usual count back system.

In third place were the team of Nick Smith, Andy McClelland, Phil Bayliss and Ewan McClelland, in second place also with 70 were the team of Dave Baker, Jerry Hibbert, Neil Smith and Roy Durston. The winners of the competition with 71 were the team of Roger Blackwell, Andy Greene, Steve Mullington and Charles Davenport.

In the second round of the Winter Four Stableford competition five pairs returned scores of 42 points and as a result all fought for third place. After much deliberation on the count back system Dave Jones and Colin Lane headed the group and were placed in third.

Former club captain Charles Davenport continued his excellent form with Andy Greene and they returned a score of 44 points to obtain second place. The winners of the competition however, playing outstanding golf, were the two Daves - Farrell and Harding - who returned the excellent score 46 points, a clear ten points better than par. The first two pairs have now qualified for the match play stages of this competition, which will be held later in the year.

In the Ladies' November Medal, Joss Douglas-Pennant was in superb form in Division One returning a net 69 off a handicap of 19. In second place, returning a net 72, was Jennifer Simms and the ever improving Janet Long was third, returning a net 73.

In Division Two, Evelyn Hill also returned a net 69 to take first place. Jill Piner came second with a net 71 and Ruth Scott third with a net 72. In the 18 holes Stableford competition Ruth Scott continued her excellent form returning a score of 38 points to take first place. Sue Field, who returned a one under par score of 37 points, cane second, with Janet Long in third place. In the section for over 40 handicaps, Jennifer Butler gained first place returning a score of 37 points.
