CCTV coverage for Barnards Green cannot come soon enough, according to the owner of one vandalised property.

The glass covering four display boards outside Gaynor-Smith, Owen and Co solicitors was smashed overnight on Thursday, November 14.

"Three were polycarbonate and one was toughened glass," said Adrian Gaynor-Smith, a consultant at the firm and owner of the building.

Mr Gaynor-Smith said he thought the damage could have been done with an implement such as a metal pole.

"Someone just went down each one," he said. "They then went down the line of offices and houses and had a go at the tops of pillars. It's totally mindless."

Mr Gaynor-Smith estimates the damage at between £200 and £250 and said the arrival of CCTV would be most welcome in preventing similar attacks in the future.

Dave Hawley, project officer at Malvern Hills District Council, said he hoped Barnards Green's three CCTV cameras would be operational by Christmas, covering the area from Geraldine Road to the end of the traffic island opposite Pickersleigh Road.

"It depends on permission for connections from BT and that sort of thing," he said. "If not before Christmas, certainly as soon after Christmas as possible."

Kim Stain, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said of the vandal attack at the office of Gaynor-Smith, Owen and Co: "There have been no arrests or charges, inquiries are continuing."

Anyone with any information about the damage is asked to call police on 08457 444888, quoting c/642136.
