MALVERN Town Wanderers faced a strong and determined Lyppard Rangers in their latest league encounter.

LYPPARD RANGERS U14s 1,

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U14s 2

Play was very well balanced with Wanderers probably more creative but at the interval the game remained goalless.

The introduction of Steve Ledbury paid dividends, proving a handful for the home defence. A fine right wing run from Ledbury saw his cross fired in at the far post by Zach Blood. Minutes later an effort from the Lyppard attack was judged to be handled by Bruce Rogers. Former Wanderers' striker Michael Dicapita scored the resulting spot kick. Wanderers then took the initiative going forward at every opportunity to make their pressure pay off. They were finally rewarded when Steve Ledbury's strong burst through the home defence saw him brought down for Zach Blood to step up calmly to ram home the penalty to clinch all three points.

Man of the match was Zach Blood.

WELLAND JUNIORS U14s 3, BROMYARD 4

WELLAND got off to a flying start with a goal in the second minute scored by Joe Waldron and even when the home side were temporarily reduced to 10 men, when Rusell Alderson left the field for treatment, they dominated the game.

Despite the home teams' domination the score remained at 1-0 at the interval.

Josh Fernie and Guy Habbitts came on in place of Josh Kirby and Huw D'Arcy and it wasn't long before the home teams' constant pressure began to tell with Richard Pitt scoring from an audacious lob from inside the area.

With 20 minutes to go Rusell Alderson added a third and Welland were cruising to a comfortable home victory. However, the visitors refused to give up and increasingly threatened Welland's' goal scoring two in relatively quick succession. Welland began to look disorganised and tried in vain to hold on but the visitors' persistence was rewarded with a further two goals before the final whistle to secure them a shock 4-3 victory.

Man of the match, sponsored by Michael Ridley Builders, was Welland's' industrious Richard Pitt.

WESTBURY BOYS U13s 1, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U13s 4

THIS was a hard fought match for Wanderers against a physically challenging team in the Mercian Elgar League.

It was the excellent passing from the Malvern boys that made the difference and won the game. In the first half home pressure only resulted in two goals both well taken by Calum Campbell, the second from a great through ball from Lloyd Merrick. Westbury bounced back and a series of defensive errors presented them with a goal.

In the second half there were even more near misses from the Wanderers, a great run by James Lush ending in a tame shot and more good saves by the Westbury goalie before Danny Stimson picked up a loose ball in the penalty area and put it away. Quick thinking by the enterprising young Wanderers' keeper Max White, a fine drop kick out to the half way line to Ryan Mansbridge saw him clear of the defence and a well taken shot gave his team a comfortable win.

MCL CLAINES U12s 1, NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS 3

NEWTOWN Sports Colts U12s managed to come out on top in a lacklustre performance away to Claines last Sunday.

A lethargic looking midfield of Edwards, Caffull, Gath and Powell started off slowly. Neither side created much before Newtown's James Crane opened the scoring, as his long range free-kick was mis-judged by the Claines keeper. Newtown started playing some better football, with Twinberrow and Buckle having several half chances. Claines too had some good passing moves and they equalised shortly before half-time, with keeper Johnson unsighted.

In the second-half Newtown's defence grew more confident and the introduction of Hale gave Newtown some extra pace upfront. Hale put Newtown ahead as he broke clear of the Claines defence and powered the ball into the net. Hale then finished off a fine performance by grabbing his second and the team's third, as again he raced clear and placed the ball coolly past the keeper. A far from convincing performance but an improved second half saw Newtown Sports take all three points.

WELLAND JUNIORS U12s 0, KAYS BROADHEATH U12S 6

DESPITE a brave, committed performance Welland were always second best to an excellent Kays team.

Welland started the game brightly and created two good chances before Kays attacked. Ater ten minutes or so Kays started to get on top and they soon took the lead with a goal of real class. Welland fought back strongly but the result was put almost beyond doubt with three goals in quick succession before half time.

The second half was more even. Welland had many chances but could not score and as they pushed on Kays poached another two goals before the end. The nearest Welland came to scoring was when a Cathal McTernan free kick was pushed around the post.

The final score did not reflect a good performance by an improving Welland team. Goal keeper Barton Matthews made some excellent saves, the defence under at times severe pressure played well, whilst Ben Fletcher, Tom Pugh and Joe Forsyth worked hard in midfield. Substitute Tom Knowles made an encouraging contribution and Josh Newell made a welcome return back following his bad injury on the first day of the season.

Welland man of the match was Cathal McTernan.

DROITWICH SPA COBRAS U11s 0, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U11s 7

MALVERN Town Wanderers played some of their best football of the season in this win on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead when Douglas Howie deftly headed Josh Ball's throw into the path of Alex Wren who rifled the ball past the keeper. A minute later Douglas Howie pounced to head the ball into the net after it rebounded off a defender. At the other end a brilliant clearance from Josh Ball denied Cobras before Adam Mayo was unlucky not to score when his rasping shot was deflected for a corner which Josh Ball converted with a skimming header.

The second half saw the introduction of Harry Blood who made an immediate impact when his shot found the back of the net following a reverse pass from Josh Asquith. Josh Ball then set up Alex Wren whose sublime overhead kick deceived the goal keeper. Alex Wren and Douglas Howie then combined well to tee up Josh Asquith who unleashed a thunderbolt shot for Malvern's sixth. Natalie Chadney had another excellent game in defence whilst Bobs Mackichan capped an impressive display when his inch perfect pass put Josh Asquith through to score Wanderers' final goal.

Special mention should be made of Malvern's Jack Bottomley who was unflappable in his unaccustomed role as goal keeper.

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U11s 4, EVESHAM FDS 0

NEWTOWN started the game brightly and opened the score in the first minute with a 20 yard free kick from Louis Loader that the Evesham keeper palmed into his own net.

Newtown increased the pressure with Dan Hunt forcing a good save from the keeper, with a hard low drive, Hunt then crossed for Louis Loader to score his and Newtown's second with a powerful shot. The visitors started to get into the game and only good defending by keeper Chris Reynolds and the two central defenders, Ed Ferguson and Tom Davis, thwarted Evesham.

Louis Loader was unfortunate not to get his hat-trick with a dipping shot that appeared to cross the line with the referee unsighted. A quick break by Evesham forced keeper Chris Reynolds into a fantastic save, pushing the ball around the post for a corner. Shortly before the break Josh White scored a well taken goal to put Newtown three goals up.

In the second half Newtown continued to attack, Chris DeBonis tried to chip the keeper, who was fortunate to get a hand to the ball to push it over the bar for a corner. Evesham were restricted to quick breaks out of defence but Richard Higgs and Tom Allan were able to cope comfortably, the home side's midfield of Andy Matthews, Dan Hunt and Dan Loader were always in control, with Dan Loader forcing the keeper into two good saves. With time running out Newtown made it 4-0 after a crisp shot from Chris DeBonis was tapped in at the far post by Andy Matthews.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U10s 1, NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U10s 4

NEWTOWN Sports Juniors U10s made the short trip to Malvern Town Wanderers and left with both points after a comprehensive victory.

Newtown made the brighter start with the lively Morton causing problems to the Wanderers defence. Two long range efforts from Watling tested the home keeper whilst the Newtown defence was solid. Newtown took a deserved lead after ten minutes when the keeper failed to hold onto another Watling drive and Morton pounced onto the rebound to score. More Newtown pressure resulted in a corner and Parker curled his kick directly into the goal. The Wanderers threw men forward and Loader in the Newtown goal was called upon to make three saves before the interval.

Wanderers again pressed in the second half but Parker, Carlen and the tireless Crews easily contained the forwards. When Newtown broke they always looked dangerous against a stretched defence and a last gasp clearance led to a Newtown corner. A corner kick straight from the training ground was met perfectly by Watling and his header found the net. Wanderers kept pumping the ball into the Newtown area with long throws and long balls but it was Newtown who had the goal instinct and Mallett made it four with a curling shot. It was Wanderers who scored last though when the ball ricocheted off several legs until it fell to Tom and he smashed home the consolation goal.

Man of the match was Jac Crews.

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U9'S 2, LEIGH & BRANSFORD BADGERS 0

THE match started with the visitors enjoying a large amount of the possession and Sam Parsons in the Newtown goal was called upon to make some fine saves.

Leigh continued to pressurise but Nick Owen was having a good game in the Newtown defence. As the half progressed Newtown started to come into the game mainly through the outstanding Josh Myhill in the midfield, who was having his best match to date.

The second half saw Newtown start to take control but they were being denied a goal by some excellent defending from the visitors. Midway through the half Newtown were rewarded for their pressure when Rowan Standish-Hayes produced a superb lob to open the scoring. With two minutes left Newtown secured the points when Standish-Hayes turned in a cross from George Parsons.

Josh Myhill was the Newtown man of the match.

WARNDON VILLAGE HARES U9s 1, NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS 2

ON a very small pitch Newtown Colts spent most of the first half on the back foot.

The defence of Dominic Ferguson, Joe Wallace and Thomas Howells held firm until just before half-time when a shot through a crowd of players gave Ashlea Brewer no chance in goal. Moments later another long range shot hit the Newtown post.

Following a number of substitutions at half-time Colts came back strongly. A couple of chances had gone close before Alistair Hunt drove a free kick into the roof of the net from near the halfway line. Minutes later he added a second from a through ball from Aaron Bray to put Colts ahead. Hares won a penalty towards the end of the game, but Brewer made a fine save and Newtown's win was safe.

Newtown's man of the match was Alistair Hunt
