I HAVE been out several times over the last few days to see the new Speed Readers in action.
This is a device which stands at the roadside, probably on top of a parked car, and tells you, in big red figures, the speed your vehicle is doing. It can be set up very easily, at any time and in the most unexpected places, by officers of the Malvern Hills Highways Partnership Unit.
The effect at the sites I have visited has been remarkable. As vehicles approach and their drivers see the Speed Reader ahead of them you can watch their speeds go down.
The Speed Reader shows that those responsible for road safety take speed limits seriously and that those limits mean what they say. Anyone who hasn't seen one yet may do so soon.
