I WOULD like to concur with R Hulls (Your Letters, November 8). It seems that all too often a knee jerk reaction is to reduce/extend the speed limit.
Surely a more sensible approach would be to consider the road layout, the quality/condition of the road surface, the prevailing weather conditions and the speed of the vehicle.
Whatever speed limits are put in place one cannot cater for inexperienced/unskilled/inept drivers. It is not speed in itself which causes accidents but speed in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes 20mph is too fast on a road with a speed limit of 60mph.
Let us hope common sense prevails, not political correctness or hysterical over reaction.
One other point I would make; why are there so many motorists in this area driving without lights in adverse weather conditions?
