I note from the Malvern Gazette (November 15) that Malvern Hills District Council is to consider building a new HQ.
I am sure all councillors will recall the very real anger expressed by the Council Tax-payers of Malvern over the cost of the town council's 'palace' on Belle Vue Terrace.
I am aware some revenue may be raised from the sale of MHDC properties, and no doubt the £4.6 million will be justified by the possible savings to be made.
However, I trust councillors will not be carried away by grandiose schemes and their own vanity, but will consider very carefully all the implications of such a move. We, the residents of Malvern, are not a bottomless pit!
If I know anything about consultants, I know they are not charities and KPMG's services will not have been free. A further expenditure of £50K is suggested to look at the recommendations. All this at a time when local authorities are claiming it is increasingly difficult to maintain even the basic services without huge rises in taxation.
