OPPOSITION to proposals to building a link from the M50 to the A438, near Pendock, was voiced by councillors at a meeting of Upton Town Council on Tuesday.
Fears were raised that the plans could harm the chances of getting Government funding for the raising of the A4104, between Holly Green and the Severn bridge.
"It's not a good idea at all," said district councillor Mary Wilkinson. "It's totally overshadowing what we really want."
County councillor Bob Bullock said that when a group from Upton made a representation to Transport Minister John Spellar last month asking for money for the A4104, he brought up the alternative bid when no mention had been made of it previously.
Town councillor John Shipp said that the raising of the A4104 was needed to serve Ripple and Holly Green, not just to allow better connection between the M5 and Malvern during times of flood.
The council resolved to press Worcestershire County Council for a feasibility study into the raising of the A4104.
