STUDENTS on the hairdressing and beauty courses at Malvern Hills College raised £553.64 for Children in Need on Saturday (November 15).

They recreated some of the key fashion looks from the 20th Century and then went around the town centre with collecting tins.

Pam Hopkins, hairdressing lecturer at the college, said: "We had first and second year hairdressing and first year beauty therapy students working together in teams.

"The first year students have only been with us for nine weeks.

"The standard of work was very high and we were delighted with the way the girls showed such enthusiasm and initiative while creating these looks. We would like to thank the Shaw Trust for lending us some of the outfits and Aston and Fincher of Worcester for donating a prize for the team who collected the most money."

Information about the hair and beauty courses will be available at the college's open evening on Tuesday, November 26.

BATCHES of bacon butties sold at Malvern Hills Science Park last Friday helped raise nearly £150 for Children in Need. Park manager Nigel Shaw cooked them up with help from Sue Page and Tessa Jarvis. Hungry Science Park workers snaffled them up and a batch was also sent to Malvern Hills District Council's tourism and economic development department.

ADVERTISING staff at the Malvern Gazette offices, in Broads Bank, raised more than £70 for Children in Need by selling homemade cakes to the public last Friday (November 15).

Unsuspecting visitors to the Gazette building were asked to donate money in return for a selection from a vast array of baked goods in reception.

Staff member Lorraine Bennett said: "I think that to raise £70 is pretty good for a small office."

Colleague Georgia Hobby said the total raised was £70.50, with several cakes left over.

"We decided to take them down to the firemen on the picket line," she said. "They were chuffed to bits. It went down quite well."
