MALVERN Town quickly got over their disappointing mid week home defeat against Wellington, with a seven goal power show against Brierley Hill at the Langland Stadium on Saturday.

MALVERN TOWN 7, BRIERLEY HILL 1

Town started this West Midlands Premier Division fixture at a pace their visitors were simply unable to cope with and it took Town just two minutes to gain the lead with Pete Roberts' glancing header from a Ricky Halion corner.

The second goal came just five minutes later and Pete Roberts was again instrumental when his low cross was turned into his own goal by a Brierley Hill defender .

Dean Roberts then might have twice increased Malvern's lead, but on both occasions he was denied by young visiting goalkeeper Steve Thomas.

After 16 minutes Dean Roberts combined with Cox to set up the unmarked Nathan Owen at the far post, who confidently steered the ball home for 3-0.

A fourth goal duly arrived in the 37th minute, when Thomas came out of his goal in an attempt to deny Roberts, but only succeeded in playing the ball to Owen, who calmly lobbed the ball back over him and into an unguarded goal.

Malvern secured their fifth goal on the stroke of half time, when Des Cox rose majestically to head home a Dean Roberts' cross.

It was unlikely that Town could keep the same momentum going during the second half, but they could not be accused of taking their foot off the pedal.

When Dean Roberts was upended in the area after 60 minutes, the Town skipper and penalty taker generously handed Owen the opportunity to bag his hat-trick, which he gratefully accepted. Owen then calmly slotted home number seven after the Brierley Hill defence had pushed up in an unsuccessful offside attempt.

Eventually, there was a small element of relief for the visitors, when in a 78th minute attack, they scrambled the ball home from the edge of the six yard box.
