AN heroic policeman was honoured at a bravery awards ceremony for saving a canoeist from drowning in a flooded river.
PC Andy Bennett was one of the 10 people honoured in the Vodafone Life Savers Award.
Yesterday, the 39-year-old was presented with his trophy and attended a reception with Prime Minister Tony Blair at 10 Downing Street, before a gala lunch at the Savoy Hotel.
The ceremony follows a presentation, last month, at Hindlip, in which PC Bennett was presented with a certificate from deputy chief constable Alan Bridge and a magnum of champagne from Vodafone's Jo Oliver.
Earlier this year PC Bennett, a police motorcyclist, dived into freezing waters at Kempsey after reports a woman had been caught in floods.
He fought the strong current and used the canoeist's paddle to stop the woman being swept away.
Mowers
TWO petrol lawn mowers were found hidden at the bottom of a driveway in Eckington, near Pershore.
As well as the Flymo Venturer Turbo mower model 420XL and the Honda HRB 476C mower, a Westmac scrub cutter and a Karcher pressure washer were also found in Pass Street at 9am on Saturday, November 2.
Anyone who thinks these items belong to them should contact PC Charlie Cavendish on 01905 72388 quoting c/638178.
