JOHN Barr won the opening round of Malvern Angling Club's winter league fished on Mathon pool.
The seven match series will be fished on the Avon at Birlingham and Mathon pool with the best five results counting.
Fishing with the pole at peg 21, John caught four carp on worm to weigh in at 9lb 11oz.
Ian Goddard came second taking two carp using the pole with luncheon meat at peg 5 for 5lb 3oz and Mike Spragg third with a single carp weighing 1lb 6oz from peg 13.
