LIVE surveillance cameras and DVD footage will be used in a new production of the 1986 play Road, being staged at Worcester's Swan Theatre.

Road takes its audience on a tour of urban environments where 12 lost souls tell their stories.

The play has been on examination syllabuses ever since it was written by Jim Cartwright, who is also responsible for Little Voice, made into a hit movie in 1998 staring Jane Horrocks, Michael Caine, Brenda Blethyn and Ewan McGregor.

Set firmly in the present the Pilot Theatre Company have made sure all the references are up to date in this new production.

"While the shape of the buildings may have changed, the shape of problems faced by the communities living in them has stayed the same. Perhaps they have got even worse," said Marcus Romer, artistic director of Pilot Theatre Company.

Romer is also responsible for the contemporary style of the production including original music and the surveillance footage created for each individual venue.

Pilot Theatre Company is staging the productions as part of its 21st birthday celebrations and has a reputation for ground breaking educational projects as well as its productions of Lord of the Flies and Rumble Fish.

Road runs from Tuesday, November 12 to Saturday, November 16 at 7.45pm with a 2.30pm matinee on Thursday, November 14. Tickets from £7 to £14.50 from the box office on 01905 27322.
