IN response to L Spiteri's diatribe about the (unstated) benefits of the UK becoming just a province of a federal EU, could he please explain to me in simple terms how a country with the fourth largest economy in the world, the UK, would benefit from diluting and sharing its assets with other less wealthy countries ?

This includes, of course, the 10 poorer eastern European countries due to join the superstate in the near future.

The basic truth is simple - the rest of Europe wants us in because of our economic strength and for this reason only.

If you were pooling everything you own with a few of your friends then you'd obviously want the richest ones to join in.

We don't need the EU. The EU needs us.
