COLWALL started in third place in the West of England Womens Premier League before this game and played some of their best hockey so far this season defeating Bournemouth Ladies 2-1.

COLWALL LADIES 2, BOURNEMOUTH LADIES 1

The home team started quicker in appalling weather conditions and Laura Macfarlane's pace was soon causing problems in the Bournemouth defence. Karen Hackley did well going past three players to cross only for Macfarlane to shoot just wide.

Bournemouth settled into the game and the Colwall defence had to be on their toes as they broke quickly. A well worked penalty corner opened the scoring for Colwall, Polly Bounds' strike deflected high into the net by Karen Hackley. Colwall pushed forward for a second but left themselves exposed in defence and against the run of play conceded an equaliser just before half time.

A determined start in the second half by Colwall saw some good individual skill by player of the match Macfarlane denied a solo goal by a good save. Colwall's pressure finally told when Macfarlane's mazy run and cross was met by Cathy Clements to score. 2-1.

Colwall then had to endure a ten minute period of pressure but handled it well with some good goal keeping from Anna Price to secure the points for Colwall.
