COLWALL Cricket Club held their annual dinner and presentation night last Friday at the Ledbury Rugby Club.

Those present were treated to an entertaining speech by Dr Neil Phillips and a review of the season by the 1st XI captain Dave Sutton.

There was plenty to say as the club has had its most successful season for years at all levels and has established a thriving youth section for boys and girls. Dave also announced that he is to stand down as captain after five years leading very much from the front.

There was also a special presentation to bar stewards Dennis and Dorothy Smith who have pulled their last pints in the clubhouse. The standards they have set have been so high that everyone agreed they will be very hard to replace.

This year's awards went to Dave Powell (1st XI batting), Dave Sutton (1st XI bowling), Martin Oliver (2nd XI player), Jon Berry (3rd XI player), Chris Wheeler (Improvement Cup), Ben Wheeler (U10 player), Jonty Hylands (U11 player), James Sheppard (U12 player), Mike King (U13 player), Lewis Hill (U14 player), Nick Panniers (U15 player), Andy Sutton (U16 player), Josh Hornyold (Overall Junior), Dee Lannie (Best girl player), James Wagstaff (Evening league player), Dave Child and Gary King (Club caps), Luke McQueen and James Wagstaff (Hat-trick ties), Dave Child and Peter Thompson (Centurion ties) and Gary King (Bannister award).

The club also launched its very popular grand Christmas draw to raise funds for the club. First prize is £100 and there are many other excellent prizes besides. Entries taken at Pedlingham's Stores, Colwall.

The club is always looking to build on its success. Anyone interested in the club, whether as a player or non-player, should contact the chairman, Alastair Smith (01684) 563047 or secretary Tim Riley (01684) 560214.
