HAVING had long involvement with the Swan Theatre, I cannot believe that the city council is considering reducing funding for this gem in our midst, almost certainly forcing closure.
Many excellent amateur companies would end up with no stage on which to perform.
Playwrights and artists would not have a home, three amazing youth groups could be wound up and there would be no community work in schools and colleges.
Crucially, there would be no professionally-produced Theatre anywhere in the county.
How can a responsible city council even contemplate the closure of this centre of excellence and vital log in our city's life?
