CELEBRATIONS have been well to the fore at the Worcestershire Golf Club as both the A and Scratch teams have won their respective leagues.

The A team won their league for the second successive season. The team were pushed all the way to the final game of the season and only succeeded in winning by half a point from Evesham, who took second place.

The end of season league meeting held at the Worcestershire was preceded by a four ball alliance Stableford competition. Each four man team was led by a Worcestershire player. Most impressive in the competition was the play of Graham Wallace. Graham, leading a team of three visitors, personally played the course in the excellent score of two under par gross. His form enabled his team to return a score of 86 points easily beating the second placed team lead by Paul Yorke.

Playing in Division Two of the Scratch league, the Worcestershire has been ably led throughout the season by Nick Smith.

Nick has proved an inspirational leader and the team have responded by winning promotion to Division One of the Worcestershire County Scratch League for next season. Mark Read, playing consistent golf throughout the season, came second in the individual county scores.

In the traditional end of season Stableford competition between the A, B and C teams. The A team again proved too strong for their competitors. For the A team excellent scores of 38 points were returned by Stephen Lane, Dave Farrell and Steve Bradshaw. The B team was well served by former captain Tony Rogers and Brian Evans. Tony scored 38 points and Brian 37. Tony and Brian were well supported by Brian Rose who returned a B team score of 37 points. The C team were a little disappointing; no player obtaining par or better. Three players returned scores of 35 points - Jerry Hibbert, Carl Hardy and Bob Cale.

The A team were the clear winners scoring 45 points more than the B team who scored 18 points more than the C team.

The new lady captain, Kate Foster, enjoyed her first competition, which followed the traditional drive in. Kate drove two excellent drives down the centre of the fairway to be collected by Liz Bird and Jackie Tanner.

In the three ball alliance competition that followed the drive in Kate Anderson, Barbara Evans and Margaret Duncan were the winners returning a score of 55 points. Pat Catlin, Jill Mico and Ann Goode were the runners up on 50 points.

The standard of play in the ladies section has steadily improved and there are now five ladies playing off a handicap of single figures. In addition the club now has 37 ladies in the Silver Division holding handicaps of less than 20.
