While the people of Upton may not see much advantage in the proposed link between M50 and A438, as someone who travels by car to work in Cheltenham from Malvern every day, I can see a number of benefits.

At present my journey involves having to cross the river at Upton and head down the A38 towards M50 Junction 1. This stretch of road is often congested, particularly with lorries heading to and from the lorry park at Upton. The proposed link would enable traffic from the Cheltenham direction to bypass Upton and thus relieve congestion in Upton. I estimate it would save at least five minutes on the journey.

Eastnor Castle is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination. At present traffic for Eastnor has to come through either Malvern or Upton. The proposed link would enable traffic to come straight off the M50 on to the A438 and straight in to Eastnor. Traffic heading for the Three Counties Showground would also be able to make use of the link.

I feel this link would be far more cost-effective than a link from the M5 to Malvern.
