While your photographer - to the amusement of my friends - captured well my concern about there being yet another planning application to build on Malvern's "green lung" (Malvern Gazette, October 25), I am reassured by the fact the council only a few years ago threw out the pervious one.

Nevertheless, I and the many other people who have spoken to me about this have serious concerns about the way the planning process works.

I have expressed my good will towards Mr Oseman (the applicant) who we have known for a long time. The only difference between us is one of temperament, such that he is trying to do his best for his own children, while I am trying to ensure a worthwhile future for my own and everybody else's grandchildren.

My anger is with the whole system, which does nothing to prevent applications for development of Malvern's green space coming up again and again - this is the fourth time to my own knowledge.

Malvern with these fields is a special place, and our council and planners have a responsibility to make sure it stays that way.

After Roman Way, Waitrose, and the senseless destruction of hedgerows down Back Lane and tree cover along Meadow Road brook, I feel it necessary to remind them of that. We are in danger of turning into just another town if they focus on details and not the wider picture.
