A WIDE variety of country crafts were on show to visitors who braved Saturday's appalling weather to attend the Frome Fair.

Card maker, woodworkers, wine and cider makers, artists and more gathered at the Bishop's Frome Village Centre to help raise money for village hall maintenance.

David Powell, chairman of the management committee, said the event had been a success.

"Considering the bad weather, we think it went pretty well," he said.

"There was a steady stream of people throughout the day and there was a very good atmosphere.

"I think people would have been happier had there been floods of people coming to visit but it was a pretty awful day so it wasn't surprising."

Mr Powell estimated the event to have raised around £500.

"We're trying to keep down the hire charges," he said. "However, the bills have to come from somewhere.

"I think it was a good day, I hope the exhibitors found it worked well."
