PUPILS at Grimley and Holt Primary School have been getting into the swing of things with a new course for brass instruments.

Since September, pupils aged between seven and 11 have been learning to play the blues under the guidance of Bromsgrove-based Music for You.

After a demonstration last summer, 18 of the 38 Key Stage 2 pupils signed up for lessons.

"We're only a small rural school, but we like to do things well and do things a little differently," said headteacher Sheila Crawford.

Every week, the children have individual and group lessons for a variety of instruments, such as the trumpet, trombone and French horn.

"We hope to be able to include something of a blues ilk that the children can join in with in this year's Christmas production," said Mrs Crawford.

"We're also planning to have an informal Christmas event where members of the public, not just parents, can come in and share some mince pies.

"We have a lot of extra-curricular activity here to enrich the children's experience at school."
