Veterans of the Royal British Legion's Broadheath Branch, have met with local schoolchildren to promote Remembrance Day.

Keith Fraser, a retired gunner in the Royal Artillery, and chairman of this branch of the Legion, yesterday met with pupils from Broadheath Church of England Primary School.

The 68-year-old of Bell Lane, hoped to raise awareness of the importance of this time of year.

"Young people are beginning to become more conscious of what the Legion represents," he said.

"Television always helps to promote awareness among them, but we have come to try to involve them a bit more."

The small service attended by the school's headmaster, eight pupils and several members of the Royal British Legion, saw poppies and wreaths placed on four graves in Lower Broadheath Church.

Another remembrance service will be held just before 11am, on Sunday, November 10, at Lower Broadheath Church.

The following day, Broadheath Primary School will also maintain two minutes silence at 11am.
