Bournville 0, Upton 3

TWO goals by player of the match Sally Loynes helped Upton to an impressive win at Bournville.

Upton, with a full complement of players, travelled to King Edwards School to play Bournville and started well, with Charlotte Underwood finding plenty of space and coming close to opening the score.

This woke Bournville up, their midfield and forwards combining well keeping the Upton team busy.

Vikki Atkinson, playing with jet lag, proved that she retains the strength and stamina to make some important tackles in midfield.

Bournville having got into their stride enjoyed a period of sustained pressure keeping Jenny Parkes, Jacky Farley and Vicky Lannie busy in defence.

Goalkeeper Sue Murphy made an impressive reflex save to enable Trudy Warner to clear the ball away from danger.

With 'Babs' fitness paying dividends on the left, the combination with Rachel, Sally Loynes and Anita Sherwood gained Upton a short corner. With a quick ball out from Trudy Warner, Sally Loynes stopped the ball to giving it a fierce strike wide of the Bournville keeper to rebound off the backboards and give Upton the lead.

After half time Upton again found gaps in the Bournville defence with a quickly taken ball from Jacky Farley finding Rachel on the left wing.

A pass of pinpoint accuracy found Charlotte Underwood in the midfield. Sally Loynes having already passed the Bournville defence ran onto the subsequent pass and fired the ball into the goal past a helpless Bournville keeper.

Despite having several short corners Bournville were unable to capitilise, their centre forward switching positions having been marked out of the game by Vicky Lannie.

Upton made it 3-0 when a free hit from just outside the 'D' from Jacky Farley was met by Sally Loynes, who pulled the ball back to Anita Sherwood to score her first league goal.
