NEARLY 400 railway sappers who died during the Second World War will be remembered at a service on Sunday.
A roll of honour containing the names of 354 members of a Royal Engineers' railway unit corps will be dedicated at Severn Valley Railway, Kidderminster.
Chief Royal Engineer Lieut Gen Sir Scott Grant will inspect a guard of honour at the station at 10.45am, and during the service, which starts at 11am, will place a wreath on the door of Stanier 8F class locomotive.
The heavy freight locomotive served the Corps of Royal Engineers between 1941 and 1952 and is the official memorial to all British military railwaymen who gave their lives on active service. It is believed to be the only land-based mobile war memorial in the UK.
