BROMSGROVE golfer Pete Williams stands on the threshold of international golfing glory after playing the round of his life to reach the prestigious final of the Wilson Matchplay Championships.
Pete, aged 37, will fly out to Portugal's Vale do Lobo golf course, in the Algarve, for the all-expenses paid 72-hole, four-day grand final in January as the only West Midlands representative.
The assistant greenkeeper at Bromsgrove Golf Centre goes head-to-head with five other finalists from across the country in his quest for the Matchplay singles title.
Pete has fought his way through from an original entry of 6,000 competitors, 44 of which were from the West Midlands.
Playing off a six-handicap, Pete, together with caddie Liz Newton, qualified by finishing in the top five at the last round at Sandwell Park Golf Club.
Pete said: "I know I played well but I can't believe I've made it through to the final.
"It's down to the last six players now.
"My aim was to get to Portugal but now I'm there I'm just going for it and hoping I can bring the title back to Bromsgrove."
