THE DERELICT Worcestershire hotel will come under the spotlight tomorrow (Thursday)when planners discuss a bid to transform it into apartments.
Wychavon District Council's licensing and development control committee will consider an application by George Wimpey for the historic site.
Wimpey plans to demolish the 19th century building in St Andrew's Road and transform the site into 96 two-bedroom apartments.
The property, which is owned by the Impney Hotels group, has stood empty for more than 15 years.
Two houses occupied the site in the 1800s. John Corbett, who owned the well-known Chateau Impney, purchased the land and built the hotel in 1891.
Its main use was to accommodate people using nearby the St Andrew's Brine Baths. The area was recently earmarked on the district's local plan as an area where around 80 dwellings could be built.
It is thought mainly young couples or single people who want to live and work in Droitwich Spa, will be most attracted to the new properties. If given the green light, some of the apartments will be ring-fenced for social housing. This will leave 16 two-bedroom apartments available for rent or shared ownership.
Planning officers have recommended that councillors agree to the application, which was submitted to the district council on Friday, July 19.
