MRS Hughes, president, welcomed members to the October meeting of Finstall WI.
Invitations had been received from Bromsgrove and Fairfield WI's for members to attend their Christmas parties in December.
Bernard Mills, the speaker for the evening, then gave a most interesting talk on the history of Kay's, the mail order company. William Kilbourne Kay started a catalogue in the 1880's selling jewellery, watches, clocks and household items. Fashion items did not appear in the catalogue until the end of World War I. In 1929, William Kay died, and his son Jack Kay became director. In 1937 Kay's was acquired by Great Universal Stores Limited, after negotiations by Isaac Wolfson. The competition was won by Mrs Coley and the raffle prize by Miss Wormington.
