DEAR EDITOR - I was fascinated to read the remarks made by an apparent resident of Norbury House. I can only assume this person has no grasp of life as it exists within our cities, towns and villages.
I would like to make the following points:
1 How does this person consider it to be extremely important to preserve the theatre. Their letter is meant to cause the demise of a venue which has been - and will continue to be - one of the main planks of entertainment in Droitwich since 1963, many years before the advent of Norbury House?
2 Rude, thoughtless, downright dangerous. Come on! What examples does this resident present? His/her car bonnet has been scratched and wing mirror broken. Has this person studied the demographics of the people who visit the Norbury? Grey hairs are in the ascendancy, most love the theatre for the joy it gives. Are these the vandals this person depicts? Hundreds of other people walk past the building every week.
3 Inconsiderate parking. Most theatregoers park in the car parks provided and the theatre makes the point to its patrons that the parking outside the theatre is not for patrons use.
4 Litter/Rubbish. That's what this is. Does this person seriously believe that the mature people come to the theatre with the intention of leaving their rubbish? Of course not. Once again there are far more passers by on a daily basis than there are people entering the theatre.
5 Vandals get into the theatre and start a fire. The vandals got in through an entrance to Norbury House left open by a Norbury House resident! Nothing to do with the theatre!
6 Parents wait for their children to finish classes in the theatre. Since the only class relates to the Youth Theatre, this comment beggars belief! Obscenity and verbal abuse! Does this person do nothing else but spend all their time in the car park? Of course not. Parents who support their children at the Norbury are caring people of all levels of society, who wish their children to enjoy drama and the enriching atmosphere available to them. Does anyone seriously believe the comments of obscenity and verbal abuse? I think the parents wouldl be a little upset to read of themselves as obscene and abusive!
God help theatre throughout the UK if it has to rely on its growth for support from this level of foolish, bigoted, and ill-informed Resident.
