REDDITCH Council is set to join a partnership to improve rural bus services which could see up to £250,000 awarded for individual projects.
As a partner, the council will contribute £2,000 per year to the Wychavon and Redditch Rural Bus Partnership for the next three years.
The scheme supports community-based transport initiatives which secure a long-term improvement for people living in rural areas' access to jobs, services and social activities, as well as enhancing visitors' access to the countryside.
The council has been involved in the partnership since November 1999 and received £2,000 from the partnership plus the free use of a county council adapted vehicle to provide the Rural Rides Dial-A-Ride service to Tesco, which has been operating since July 2001.
Project proposals include expanding Dial-a-Ride, providing a 'demand responsive type service' for the Feckenham area and creating a countywide rural Workwise scheme to enable disadvantaged people to access transport to training and employment.
