ARECENT appeal in the Indicator for the return of a souvenir Nazi flag taken at the Battle of Arnhem has produced not one, but three flags for Redditch veterans.
Members of the Redditch branch of the Parachute Regimental Association wanted the flag, which was auctioned after the war to a Feckenham resident, for a display they are mounting in the town's Classic Cinema.
The display will mark the presentation in Redditch of the screen version of the Arnhem operation, A Bridge Too Far.
"We have been loaned three magnificent flags - however, we are still searching for the Arnhem flag which we believe is somewhere in the Feckenham area," said branch chairman Mr Pat Finney.
One of the flags which was loaned to the branch by Mr Ken Lake, of Mount Pleasant, is almost as big as a double-decker bus and is believed to have come from a battleship.
The other flag was seized in North Africa by Mr Ewart Clarke, of Greenlands, Redditch.
The origins of the third flag are a mystery.
It has been rolled up untouched in Inkberrow School for as long as any of the staff can remember.
Other souvenirs which have been loaned to the branch include copies of seven telegrams sent between the Allied top brass at Arnhem.
These include despatches from such people as Churchill and Montgomery.
