A WOODROW woman has been fined after she pleaded guilty to benefit fraud at Droitwich Magistrates Court earlier this month.
Dawn Walker, of Bushley Close, admitted three offences of failing to report changes in her employment and was fined £100 and ordered to pay £400 towards benefit overpayments.
Between February 2001 and March this year, the defendant changed her job four times and continued to dishonestly claim housing benefit and council tax benefit from Redditch Council as she knew the changes would have affected the size of her payments.
A council spokesman said the case, heard on Wednesday, October 9, highlighted the importance of anyone claiming housing benefit and council tax reporting changes in their circumstances as they occur.
All claims forms and award notices clearly advise claimants of their responsibilities while claiming benefit and point out that failure to meet them may result in prosecution.
Any benefit overpaid as a result of failure to notify changes will be fully recovered.
Anyone who wants to report a suspected fraudulent benefit claim can do so by leaving as much information as possible on the Redditch council fraud hotline on 534164.
