DROITWICH SPA Hockey Club Men's First XI suffered their first league defeat of the season as they crashed 5-1 at Wednesbury.
Droitwich started the match slowly and soon found themselves a goal down to the early West Midlands division one pace setters.
This spurred Spa into gear though and they equalised through Ed Deacon following a penalty corner.
However, the hosts wasted little time in taking the lead again and added a further two before the break to leave Gareth Thomas' side trailing 3-1.
Droitwich kept the pressure on and were unlucky not to reduce the deficit when Luke Hine's strike was well saved by the goalkeeper.
Consolation
The second half saw few attacks against a strong Wednesbury side, some good goalkeeping by stand-in stopper Neil Davies kept the score line down.
Droitwich went in search of a late consolation and conceded the final goal five minutes from the end.
Spa entertain Wolverhampton-based Old Wulfrunians this Saturday at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre, in Briar Mill.
