A PLAN to develop the former dry cleaners' site off Yates Hay Road, Malvern Link, has been given the go-ahead by the district council.

David Payne Homes Ltd has applied to build 38 homes on the 1.38 acre plot, which was cleared of the laundry buildings earlier this year.

The application calls for a variety of houses from one-bedroom apartments to detached houses. But members of the southern area planning committee said they would approve the plan only if the developer agreed to enter into a legal agreement to provide five affordable houses for a housing association as part of the development.

The developer will also have to contribute towards the creation of public open space and facilities at Somers Park Primary School and Dyson Perrins High School.

They would also have to pay for improvements to the Howsell Road/Yates Hay Road junction and a footpath running alongside the site.
