MANAGER John Barton has refused to be drawn on speculation linking Worcester City with Cambridge City player Adam Wilde.

Wilde starred for The Lilywhites in their 2-0 defeat at Worcester on Saturday and is highly regarded in the Dr Martens Premier Division.

Rumours have been circulating suggesting the left winger is a Barton target but City's boss played down any transfer talk. "We are making enquiries with regard to a few players and are pursuing several options," said Barton.

Wilde joined Cambridge in August 1999 after surprisingly being released by Cambridge United.

Several clubs have expressed an interest in the player and Cambridge turned down a five figure fee for him during the 2000/01 season.

Wilde won both the Supporters and Players Player of the Year awards last season.

Barton remains keen to strengthen his injury-hit squad with a string of academy stars packing the bench at the weekend due to the absence of seven first teamers through injury and suspension.
