A PASSENGER narrowly missed being hit when yobs hurled a brick through a bus window, a director claims.

Nick Warner, director of Boomerang Bus Company, said glass showered passengers on the 36 and 38 buses after bricks were hurled at the moving vehicles two nights running.

The services, which ran from 6.30pm till midnight Monday to Saturday, have now been withdrawn after drivers refused to "risk their lives" around Warndon's Cranham Drive, where both incidents happened.

"Drivers aren't prepared to drive the buses any more. I have to support them in that," said Mr Warner.

"We've withdrawn the service and don't know if it will be up and running again.

"The bricks fully smashed the bus windows last Saturday and Sunday nights, nearly hitting a passenger on one occasion."

Mr Warner said the 36 and 38 ran from Worcester city centre to Warndon on a circular route.

He had no idea how old the yobs were, but estimated the damage they caused at £600.

At the beginning of this month, the Evening News reported the 36 and 38 were running sporadically due to vandalism and a lack of bus drivers.

Boomerang Buses also hit the headlines in July last year when an air rifle pellet was fired at a bus travelling through Dines Green.

"Other road users are being put in danger," said Mr Warner. "The drivers would be the ones to be prosecuted if there was an accident. If they swerved because somebody had thrown a brick, somebody else in another car could be killed. We're sorry we can't operate any more."

Mr Warner said he would still be operating a revised Sunday service, missing out Cranham Drive.
