A DRAMA set on the waves of a flood that swamps Worcester and the Malvern Hills is to open at Worcester's Swan Theatre on Thursday, October 24.

Worcester-based playwright Alex Jones, who plays Clive Horrobin in Radio 4's The Archers, has two protagonists, Tom and Sally Millington, cast adrift during a flood of epic proportions in River's Up.

During their day-to-day life, they ply a trade sailing a disco boat up and down the Severn, catering for hordes of drunken Brummies.

But a cataclysmic flood sees the river rise and rise until the pair are drifting round a watery Worcester searching for the Malvern Hills. They decide they may have to strike out for the Continent - despite their worries about French toilets!

Directed by Jenny Stephens and designed by Keith Baker, the production stars Sunny Ormond as Sally and Stephen Crane as Tom.

Sunny was last seen in The Worcester Century plays last year and is better known as the rebellious Lillian Bellamy in The Archers.

"This is a quirky tragi-comedy of epic proportions written with insight, understanding and wry humour," said Swan marketing manager Liz Richards.

River's Up runs from Thursday, October 24 until Saturday, November 9 at 7.45pm with matines on Saturday, November 2 and Thursday, November 7 at 2.30pm.
