WE thank you for highlighting the plight of the disabled young people of Dickinson Court and other elderly and disabled people who live in the vicinity of the Bilford Road Waste Site (Evening News, October 2).

I see Severn Waste is giving its usual non-existent message of sympathy. But at least they do admit that there is noise coming from this site which they have denied in the past, by saying, and I quote: "Compactors will not add to the noise in and around the site at present." Surely they do not expect us to believe that.

They also state there will not be a problem with smells from the types of waste delivered to these facilities.

That is a ridiculous statement to make - it is impossible to check or know what is dumped in this site. Remember Stourport?

And as for pedestrians being given prime consideration, it never has been, and never will be safe for them with the volume of traffic using this road with the site entrance situated on a bend and 12 metres from the busy Wordsworth Avenue junction.

When the site is closed for six months next year, what will the public do with their waste - create more Offerton Lanes? Would it not be more sensible to develop an alternative site before closing Bilford Road, thus causing no interruption to services.

The answer to that of course will be there are no available sites or land on any of the seven business parks and they have never heard of compulsory purchase, which does work if you want it to.

We, the residents, fail to understand why the Environmental Department is not more fully involved. This site is a serious violation of our Human Rights - and what a waste of a prime site.
